Scope: This book explains the principles of intelligent telecommunications networks and illustrates them with many practical examples of applications. Although international standards are beginning to emerge, they are far from simple and this text will assist clarity in understanding the underlying principles. The enabling technologies are reviewed but much of the book is devoted to practical issues such as service control points, existing switches, call party handling etc. The principles are then extended into the technologies of mobility, broadband and the Internet, together with discussion of managing intelligence in communications and how to charge for it.
