Hi

I am currently studying for 2391 exam and keep getting mock questions on human senses.

Which is the preferred human sense when .....

I can't find this in GN3 or BS7671

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Hello Tezza,
Which is the preferred sense when what?

Common sense is needed here.

Is the lighting supply present? Look and see if the lights work after using the functional switch.

Is an electro-mechanical machine like a motor working correctly. Look AND listen for strange sounds, like vibration or grinding noises that may indicate a worn out motor bearing or loose cover that rattles.

If a light switch is getting hot when it should not that can be indicated by you feeling the hot switch. That may indicate a faulty switch or a loose conductor in the switch.

Is a piece of electrical equipment smelling strange or fishy? Smell can indicate an overheating piece of equipment.

Taste, not used very often as you don't want to go around tasting unknown stuff and get poisoned.

So you may use one or more human senses to find a problem.

Z.

I don't recall that in the exam course or the others. It's a question akin to fault finding.

Touch, sight or smell depending on circumstances.

Don't use 'touch' as the exam answer on bare metal buss bar of course (though clearly a few folk do in real life.)
But a smell of hot insulation is the aroma of suitably expensive job in the offing. As above, any sense other than taste really (maybe in a cake factory ?) but which one depends on the detail of the exam question.

Maybe this is an example where to drill a small drain hole at the lowest point of the enclosure is not going to be the preferred solution.
Although I am slowly coming to the conclusion that for the boot of my car, it is despite all contrary instinct..

Yes it is on the syllabus.
What human sense would be used in;
Checking conductors are properly identified: sight
Checking that trunking has correct IP rating, sight /touch
Checking for damage to conductor insulation: sight/touch/smell
Checking correct csa of main protective bonding: sight/touch
Above are typical questions although I must say that they almost fall in to the insulting file.
