Choosing between a Personal Distribution List or a Majordomo Mailing List
IEE Majordomo lists are only available for use by IEE committees and other groups (e.g. Branches Events). Requests for new lists or changes to an existing one should be made via email to webmaster@iee.org (see list owner information).
If you are eligible to have an IEE Majordomo list, then before you request one, you should decide whether it would be easier to just set up a personal distribution list in your email client address book (with most mail clients, there is the option to create one).
If the group of people that needs to exchange information is small and is going to remain the same, then it is advisable for each person to set up a group in their personal distribution list rather than ask for a 'Majordomo list' to be set up. The advantage of this is that no list administration is required and messages do not need to be filtered through Majordomo. However, if the required list does not fall into this category then a Majordomo mailing list can be requested.
Majordomo mailing lists have advantages over normal mail client 'personal distribution lists' because if the list subscribers often change, new list subscribers can either subscribe themselves, or if the list is closed, be subscribed to the list, without any action by other list subscribers.
