IET London Region 2007-2008
Welcome to London Region! We are one of the IET’s busiest, with several meetings taking place most months of the year. In particular we would like to welcome all former members of the IIE to our events. We are also keen to have former IIE members participate in the organization of our activities. If you are interested in volunteering please contact me or one of the section organizers.
London Region has several Local Networks, which hold regular monthly evening meetings. At these we have a lecture, questions, refreshments and an opportunity to meet others. All are welcome; members, partners, colleagues, guests and anyone else who is interested. Meetings are normally free. Just come along, although we do like you to register in advance, by email with the organizer, so we can plan for refreshments & seating.
Last year we held over 50 meetings in all, and attendance is going from strength to strength. At Savoy Place, we now use the main lecture theatre and regularly get attendances of 200 up. In Hammersmith the previous venue proved way too small, and we have now moved to bigger and better facilities in the Novotel. Our Local Regions meet at: Savoy Place; Hammersmith; Kingston; Harrow; Bromley (jointly with Kent)
Most of these sections run a monthly meeting throughout the year, though some break for a couple of months in the summer. The regular meetings take place as follows:
Evening Lectures:
- Savoy Place: 2nd Wednesday of each month
- Hammersmith: 3rd Tuesday of each month
- Kingston: 1st Tuesday of each month
Morning and Lunch events:
- Bromley: 1st Wednesday morning of each month; evening events are also held from time to time
- Savoy Place: lunch & lecture events on the last Friday of each month
The Younger Member Section is also one of the IET’s largest, reaching out to the substantial student and young professional membership of London. Their web pages can be found on the following link.Younger Members Homepage
We will be repeating last year’s Christmas Networking event on 6th December, at Savoy Place. Again we will have representatives from Stevenage who will be there to answer questions about the activities and support that the IET can provide. We are also running 5 networking events associated with some of the Prestige Lectures. These have proved popular for those not attending the dinner, and are particularly attractive for younger members as a way of meeting members in a relaxed and informal environment. This is a unique opportunity for YM’s and one that should be exploited more (and of course there is some complementary food ..).
Details of the meetings are sent by email to all who register on the IET website with their email address, and affiliate to London Branch. Please note that this is our primary means of communicating with you, and you do need to register to get these emails! The process is straightforward, and also allows you to register with the Professional Networks, and select which events you wish to be notified about. London Network has developed very rapidly over the past few years, thanks to the energy, ideas and enthusiasm of the volunteers who run it. We welcome new ideas and suggestions for our programme and what we do. Please feel free to contact me in person or by email, or any of the other London committee members.
Most importantly we need your support by simply attending our events! So do please come along, you will find them lively and enjoyable and be most welcome.
